Nature writing and journaling weekend course

A two-day workshop focusing on nature and creative writing in the beautiful Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Join us this autumn to explore the wonderfully wild uplands of the Forest of Bowland for observation, conversation, reflection and a guided creative writing workshop.

Watch hen harriers and buzzards, barn owls, foxes and badgers prepare for winter as the burnished gold of autumn gilds this tranquil corner of rural Lancashire.

Get tips on blogging, digital photography, starting a nature diary and bringing it together in a regular journal.

Enjoy local-sourced food prepared by a classically trained chef and learn how to look deeply at the natural world and record thoughts and feelings on paper or on your tablet.

This course takes place in a beautiful old stone barn in an idyllic rural location with direct access to open countryside and is led by an established outdoor writer with 20+ years publishing experience in national magazines.

Course content includes:

  • Getting started
  • Finding your voice
  • Pace and structure
  • Writing for your own pleasure
  • Getting published
  • Small groups – one-to-one feedback

This course is designed for writers who want to use modern technology to record their stories and more traditionally oriented writers who prefer to use sketches and hand-written notes

This is NOT a technical or instructive course – it is more focused on developing mindful observation, new perspectives and more nuanced ways of thinking and expressing oneself.

Gourmet lunch and evening meals prepared by a professional chef using locally sourced ingredients included in the price.

Residential options available in cosy rural B&B on site. An extra day’s guided walking is available subject to demand.
